FRUIT COBBLER

4 cups berries, apples, peaches—or just about any fruit ½ cup sugar 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine 1 cup flour 1 tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. salt ½ cup milk ½ cup sugar 1 Tbsp. cornstarch 1 cup water or fruit juice
Put fruit in 9x9-inch pan. Mix the first amount of sugar, butter, flour, baking powder, salt, and milk, cutting in the butter to make a dough. Spread over fruit. No need to distribute evenly. Mix the second amount of sugar, cornstarch and water or juice. Pour over the entire dish. Bake at 375º for 40 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired. (Such a versatile recipe. This is a cakelike cobbler. My favorite and easy to do in a pinch.)
